Introducing me to you! And what is this blog for anyway?
Hi! And welcome to my blog. This is a place for me, Fia, to show you more about my illustration practice and convince you to love kid’s lit more than you may already. As you can see on my little bio (in the right column) or on my ‘About Me’ page, I am a handmade illustrator working in watercolor and collage.
A few facts tangentially related to my illustrations:
I live in Brooklyn only one block from my sister, who I see almost daily
I teach drawing to children on the weekends
I love addressing progressive issues, especially dealing with mental health and animal/environmental welfare
My Studio Life and Creations
I love creating landscapes, characters, commissions, and - hopefully soon - books. I share my itsy-bitty Bushwick studio with Spunky who is sadly, not my cat, but my roommate’s. Mostly, I look forward to growing my business from a side hustle into a full-time, lifelong career.
What you can expect from me
In the following weekly posts I will talk about my studio process, projects, inspirations, techniques, events and other illustration related topics related to NYC. It should be a fun, upbeat look into my creative life with some takeaway information for you.
So, to help you get a feel for the theme, the next post is going to describe the process of making bubble texture paper. Then I am going to share the step-by-step process of creating a commissioned illustration for an adult (NOT CHILD) who had very specific items she wanted depicted. I have a bunch of local bookstores I look forward to introducing you too.
I’d love to hear from you
I am open to collaborations, suggestions of topics, submissions of articles, or a quick hello and chat. Just email me via the contact information in the footer below.
